  • Title One | cclighthouseschool

Title One Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School has developed a procedure for identifying students who may require additional academic supports in order to meet the state’s challenging academic achievement standards. Title 1 is the name of the federal education program which aims to provide extra help and instruction for students. CCLCS is considered a targeted assistance school in which students are identified through formal and informal assessments as needing additional supports to achieve grade level standards. Students identified receive targeted intervention in reading, writing, and/or mathematics at school. Title 1 teachers go into the classrooms and provide instruction and assistance to small groups of students. Students may also be pulled out of the classroom during Intervention/tutorial blocks for further instruction targeted to specific math and reading/written language skills. At all times, Title 1 teachers and regular classroom teachers work together for the benefit of their students. We believe that parents and guardians play a crucial role in their child's education. As a Title I targeted assistance school, we are committed to providing opportunities for you to be actively involved in your child's learning. Families may provide input on the Title 1 / Intervention program through several avenues including parent/teacher conferences with the Intervention teacher, as well as classroom teachers and through family events such as open houses and evening events. Families may also submit any feedback and input in writing at any time, and are welcome to schedule a meeting with the Director Of Student Services for further information. In addition, parent surveys are conducted in the spring of each year. These surveys/needs assessments and program evaluation forms are used to evaluate the Title 1 program and inform future interventions and use of resources in Title 1.

  • Athletics Policies | cclighthouseschool

Athletic Policies Athletic Policy Athletics CCLCS’ Interscholastic Athletic Program fosters self discipline, respect for self and others and ethical competitiveness so as to promote personal responsibility, skill development, physical fitness, moral courage, altruism, as well as an appreciation for team and school spirit. The program operates under the guidance of adult school community members. School teams compete against other public and private middle schools, as scheduled by the Athletic Director. The school offers interscholastic middle school competition in boys/girls cross country, boys/girls soccer, field hockey, boys/girls basketball, baseball and softball. Students are entitled to self-select the team they would like to participate on based on their gender identity. The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Middle Level Athletic Committee states that “Interscholastic schedules at the middle level should include all middle level grades within the building”. In order to accommodate this directive, CCLCS follows the procedures below: For each sport season, a limit of the number of participants allowed on the team will be set by the Athletic Director. This number will be determined by the resources available each season. Seventh and eighth grade students will be allowed to sign up for the team automatically, without the possibility of being cut. Sixth grade students will be eligible for competing for any remaining spots on the team. If more students sign up than available spots, the coach will need to cut students to reduce the team to the number that can be accommodated. Please note: A fee of $7 0 is charged, per athlete per sport. Playing Time Guidelines Student athletes at CCLCS bring a wide range of abilities and commitment levels to their sports. Some athletes are amongst the elite at their age levels. Other athletes may be trying a sport for the first time. The playing time guidelines outlined here are designed to honor both kinds of athletic team participation. Committed competitive athletes deserve an experience that will hone their skills and keep them on track to meet their future athletic goals. Novice team members deserve the chance to experience the many benefits that result from successful participation at school based team sport. All eligible student athletes have the right to participate equally in practice sessions. Although coaches may at times “split squads” for smaller practices experiences, students of all ability levels should have equal practice time. All eligible students suiting up for a specific contest are guaranteed to get playing time, as long as they are behaving appropriately, but playing time may not be equal. Coaches reserve the right to apportion playing time in a game in response to the flow of the contest. Coaches have the right to set playing rosters that differ from game to game. Coaches should set game rosters in an attempt to balance competitiveness and inclusiveness. All policies outlined in this section of the Handbook are in accordance with rules and regulation of the MIAA Council. Academic Requirements for Student Athletes In order to participate on a team, student athletes are expected to maintain strong academic performance. During each sport season the Executive Director and/or Associate Director or their designees will review athletes’ academic data and when necessary generate an academic progress report. The report will generate a “Pass”, “Borderline” or “Fail” score, based on the following criteria: Pass = a C average or higher in all classes Borderline = a D average in one or more classes Fail = an F average in one or more classes Any student athlete who receives a “Fail” score may result in a temporary suspension from the team until the grade is raised. A student must demonstrate academic progress in order to continue to participate. Any student athlete who receives a “Borderline” will be given a timeline by which they must demonstrate academic progress. If a student does not meet said timeline, they may be suspended from the team. The suspension will remain in effect until academic progress has been demonstrated. Any student with an unexcused absence from school on the day of a meet/game may not participate in the competition. Final decisions regarding academic eligibility and participation in athletics will be determined by school administration. Behavior of Student Athletes Student athletes are representatives of CCLCS and are expected to maintain proper school behavior at all times. Inappropriate behavior or poor sportsmanship, either in school or at a game or team function, is subject to the disciplinary code in the Student Responsibilities section of the CCLCS Student Handbook, and may additionally include suspension or dismissal from the team. Any student who receives community services or other disciplinary action on the day of a game will be held responsible for that consequence. Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, creed, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, mental or physical disability, age, ancestry, athletic performance, special need, proficiency in the English language or a foreign language, prior academic achievement, or housing status.

Before you send a email try these tips and understand technology is fickle. Can't get in your Google account? Make sure your student is using the correct email. Student emails are made of first initial, last name, last two numbers of the class year and @cclcs.email. Example: bstudent22@cclcs.email . Also, make sure he or her is using the correct password. Parents!! Your student's Google account email and password in your Jupiter account!! Laptop not loading? A blocked website? etc. - It’s a good idea to have your student logout of their account and close out the browser. That way the account and the browser have time to sync. If a teacher unblocks a YouTube video. If the account and browser doesn’t sync, the students may see a “Blocked Website” screen instead of the video. We try to unblock websites before we give them to the students. Can't get into Jupiter? If your student doesn't know his password Mrs. Lamothe can reset it. Jupiter doesn't gives schools the passwords. XfinitWifi Free hotspots are available to all at this time. For Students By participating in remote learning today, you agree that you may not save, record, share or post this session or any photos from this session. The rules in school apply to this remote classroom experience... If you or your parents/guardians do not agree to these rules, please disconnect from this session and contact your teacher to receive an alternate learning packet or summary of the meeting. Keep your microphone muted unless you are speaking. Each student is in charge of their own microphone. Use the comments area for messages that are on-topic for the discussion. Prioritize your time during the class and avoid multitasking. Take turns and do not interrupt others when speaking. If you turn off your video during calls for privacy for your household, be sure that your profile picture is school appropriate. You may use headphones if you have them, but they are not required. For Teachers Before starting with the first official class meeting, take time to make sure each student understands how to mute, unmute, use comments, and share screens. Consider this platform as an opportunity for connection and conversation. During each session, try to allow each attendee an opportunity to speak. Don’t always use this platform for lecture or one-sided communication. Facilitate student-student interaction as much as possible. Keep calls under one hour and allow students to come and go as needed. Captions can be turned on if needed. Consider establishing hand signals for whole group responses. Links to meetings should be shared with participants through secure channels like email or Google Classroom to avoid unexpected interruptions. Don’t post links on public websites. Disable pop-ups on your computer if you plan to use present mode. Bus and Transportation Below you'll find transportation suggestions for CCLCS. Unfortunately, there is no official school sponsored transportation. Public Transporation DART and Flex busses operated by the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority serve the school. A student "Charlie Pass" is available for students at the CCRTA transporation center in Hyannis. • Health & Recreation | cclighthouseschool

Health & Recreation Overview Health: Grade 6 - Students participate in the Calmer Choice Mindful Awareness curriculum. Other objectives of the Health curriculum include self-esteem, body systems, and drug and alcohol prevention. Grade 7 & 8 - This curriculum covers three areas of personal health - physical, emotional, and social well- being. A major objective is for students to understand that these three areas are interconnected in achieving overall wellness. Classes are discussion-based with various activities, including role play and debate. We strive to make the health classroom a place where students feel safe in talking and learning about their own personal health. Physical Education: All Grades- Connecting with the health class, the Physical Education program focuses on teamwork (social well-being), supportive play (emotional health), fitness (physical health) and fun (all three).
