Zooplankton

Guide to Marine Plankton of Cape Cod
PHYLUM Rotifera

General Description (by students)

When rotifers were observed under very early microscopes their rings of swirling cilia were mistaken for wheels. This swirling cilia is a good clue that the organism you are looking at is a rotifer. Rotifers are top-shaped and have a foot.
