PHYLUM Mollusca

General Description (by students )

The Phylum Mollusca (clams, snails, octopods and squid) is second in size only to the Arthropoda. Mollusks have two structures, found nowhere else in the kingdom, one is the mantle, that creates their shell and the other is a radula. The radula is a tongue like organ, used for feeding. One more structure is the foot that allows mollusks to creep around. We have seen bivalve (clam) and gastropod (snail) veliger larvae.
