What is Plankton?
Little organisms living in salt water that drift freely with the water currents are called marine plankton. They are so small you need a microscope to find them, and even in the microscope they still look small. The kind of marine plankton that live out in the ocean are called oceanic (offshore) plankton. The plankton that live near beaches or near the shore are called neritic (coast bound) plankton. The plankton that are animals are called zooplankton. The plankton that are plants are called phytoplankton. We have studied many of these.
