Dr. Who-A Science Fiction Journey Mr. Niles, Mr. Novak It's been through all of time and space... It flies through the time vortex like nothing you've ever seen...It's bigger on the inside...It's blue... It's the TARDIS. But who is that man inside? Where did he come from? Why does he have two hearts? What's that tin dog? Why is he in a "Police Box?" Why does he love Jelly Babies? What's that saying "EXTERMINATE" at him? Frankly, I'm not certain either, but we can analyze all of this with the help of some scientific knowledge. We can take a closer look at that "dimensionally transcendental" time machine he's in, and the enemies he faces everyday. We can delve into his toolbox and see what he brings along, and how it all works. We can puzzle out the amazing concepts he brings out in his daily travels. We can view moments in his almost 48 year history, and see where he's been, what he's done there, and how he did it. Finally, we can look at the man himself, where he's from, and how he can be over 900 years old.
Ham Radio Mr. O'Hara Working with Mr. Richard O'Hara and Mr. Tony Tulio, both licensed amateur radio operators and instructors, students in this seminar will learn the basic electronic and regulatory principles needed to obtain an Element 2 Technician's license from the FCC. Students will set up an amateur station in Mr. Niles' room, stringing the antenna on the rooftop and soldering the leads into the receiver. Students will also get a chance to construct their own crystal radios. The seminar will culminate in a challenging 35-question licensure exam for each student. Students who received the Technician's License last year, and are interested in an upgrade will also be considered for inclusion in the seminar.
Helping Hands Ms. O'Leary In the Helping Hands seminar, we will come together and use our hands to help out local families in need. Each week, we will travel to the Family Pantry in Harwich and spend our time and energy volunteering where needed. Responsibilities will range from cleaning up the pantry, stocking shelves, and getting dirty in the garden. We will also organize and manage a food drive, clothing drive, and bake sale here at school - all benefitting those in need. The Family Pantry is a non-profit, non-denominational organization serving the needs of local families here on Cape Cod.
Hiking Adventures inspired by Quotes Ms. Higgins Discover the sounds and signs of spring as we hike beautiful Cape Cod. Explore marshes, beaches, woods, sweeping dunes, and trails in several different towns on the Cape. We will begin each walking adventure with a nature writer's quote (Hay, Carson, Finch, etc.) and ponder their words as we explore different parts of Cape Cod. Our mission to hike and explore several different locations of conservation lands, national seashore and state parks may bring an opportunity to discover or rediscover the amazing treasures our Cape Cod holds. Cape Cod contains diverse ecosystems, plants and animals that we coexist with and perhaps we will come across something we had not yet experienced or find something in ourselves; a passion and a protectiveness to care for this land that we are lucky enough to call home. Hikes will vary in distance and terrain and will most often be approximately one to two miles long. Dress in comfortable layers. Hiking boots or walking shoes are recommended. Please bring water and a sense of adventure.
History Goes To The Movies part 9 Mrs. Hemeon-McMahon The History Goes to the Movies seminar is designed for those who love history, the cinema, or both. Students will identify favorite periods, events, or individual protagonists in human history. With the guidance of the instructor, they will choose a film depicting that era or event and "present" it. This would include a stint of teaching about the era, a listing of historical anomalies found in the film, and, finally, bringing in food representative of the period. Students keep rating sheets for each film, timelines and maps, and, finally, vote their favorites. The last three winners were "Hotel Rwanda," "The Great Debaters," and "American Graffiti."

Each week, we will try a new technique on Tuesday that Madame will demonstrate and illustrate with examples from the works of famous artists(including sometimes her own work).
