Grant to help school focus on respect
Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School teacher Daniella Garran has received a grant to incorporate a tolerance curriculum into the school's social studies program.
Garran received $739 from Teaching Tolerance, a project of the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Ala. The center is a nonprofit organization that fights intolerance and discrimination.
Teaching Tolerance aims to "help foster respect and understanding in the classroom and beyond," according to a release from the center.
Garran will use the money to buy tolerance-related materials that will be used in student and community seminars and in schoolwide book groups, according to the release.
